I have only put Halloway product on my hardwood floors so felt it was best to stick with the same brand for stripping. Wow. What a time I had getting it up. There are still areas that need additional effort before I can wax it again. Lots of scrubbing and I had to use putty knives to get it up!
Ok, I had been using the Quick Shine clear finish on my wood floors and kitchen vinyl floor and love it. But I had ground-in dirt on the kitchen vinyl that just wouldn’t mop clean. My mom used to strip wax floors on her hands and knees with sos pads. I knew in this day and age there had to be an easier way. I googled and came across this product. I should have thought the same company would have the perfect solution. I was absolutely amazed at how well this stuff strips the dirt and old acrylic finish up. Even where you don’t think it’s that dirty. Just dilute with hot water as directed, pour on a section at a time and let set a few minutes, then mop up all that dirt and gunk. All I had to do after rinsing, was wipe on a couple coats of the quick shine acrylic finish and it brought my 20 yr old vinyl floors back to new. I highly recommend.
So easy to use. Mix in a bucket and a large sponge and get on your knees and apply. Once dry apply the wax on product twice. So easy to use. Do not over complicate.
I had spots showing up out of nowhere on my laminate flooring. It looked like polish spots but I never used anything other than recommended cleaner for laminate floors. I tried using vinegar and water but the spots got worse. So I saw this on Amazon and gave it a go. Wow it worked wonders and with little effort. I would recommend it to anyone. My floors look great now thanks to Quick Shine!!

Hardwood Floor Wax Remover FAQs
Ensure you choose the best wax remover for wood floors to maintain the quality of your flooring. To get wax off of hardwood floors, follow these steps:
- Prepare the Solution: Use a wax remover like Quick Shine Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover. Dilute it according to the product’s instructions, typically with warm water.
- Apply the Cleaner: Dampen a soft mop or cloth with the diluted cleaner and apply it to a small section of the floor. Avoid soaking the floor, as too much moisture can damage hardwood.
- Let it Sit: Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes to break down the wax buildup.
- Scrub Gently: Using a non-abrasive pad or a soft-bristle brush, scrub the area gently in a circular motion. Be cautious not to use too much force, as it may scratch the wood.
- Rinse and Wipe: After the wax is lifted, rinse the area with a clean, damp mop or cloth to remove any remaining residue.
- Dry the Floor: Use a dry, soft cloth to ensure the floor is completely dry to prevent water spots or damage.
- Inspect and Repeat if Necessary: If there is still wax buildup, repeat the process until the floor is wax-free and restored to its natural beauty.
This method is safe for most hardwood floors, but testing a small, hidden area first is always recommended.
Floor wax can be dissolved using specific cleaners and chemical solvents that break down its composition. Here are some effective options:
- Commercial Wax Removers: Products like Quick Shine Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover are designed specifically to dissolve wax buildup safely on floors. They contain solvents that break down wax for easy removal.
- Ammonia and Water Solution: A diluted ammonia solution (typically 1 cup of ammonia per gallon of warm water) can dissolve wax. However, this should be used carefully, as ammonia can be harsh on some finishes. Always test a small area first.
Over time, polish buildup can diminish the natural beauty of your hardwood floors, making them look cloudy and worn. It’s important to regularly address this buildup to maintain the lustrous shine of your flooring. To remove polish buildup from hardwood floors, follow these steps:
- Choose a Suitable Cleaner: Use a commercial wax remover for wood floors specifically designed to remove polish buildup, like Quick Shine Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover. This type of cleaner will break down polish safely without damaging your hardwood finish.
- Dilute the Solution: Follow the instructions on the product label to dilute the cleaner. Usually, warm water is recommended for optimal results.
- Apply the Solution: Dampen a mop or soft cloth with the diluted cleaner, and apply it to a small section of the floor. Avoid over-saturating, as excessive moisture can damage hardwood.
- Let it Sit: Allow the solution to sit on the surface for a few minutes. This gives it time to loosen and dissolve the polish buildup.
- Scrub Gently: Use a non-abrasive pad or soft-bristle brush to gently scrub the area in a circular motion, lifting the polish without scratching the floor.
- Rinse the Area: After scrubbing, rinse the area with a clean, damp mop or cloth to remove any residue from the cleaner and dissolved polish.
- Dry the Floor: Use a soft, dry cloth to ensure the floor is fully dry, as this helps prevent any potential water spots or damage.
- Repeat if Necessary: For thick layers of buildup, you may need to repeat the process until all polish is removed.
Regular maintenance and using the right products will help keep your hardwood floors clean and polished without creating excessive buildup.
To prevent future wax buildup on hardwood floors, follow these tips:
- Use the Right Products: Opt for products labeled as “no-wax” or “polish-free” for routine cleaning. Some cleaners, like Quick Shine’s regular floor cleaners, are designed to clean without leaving a waxy residue, which helps prevent buildup.
- Apply Polish Sparingly: Only apply polish or wax when necessary, and follow the manufacturer’s recommended frequency. Over-applying polish can lead to a thick, sticky buildup that is harder to remove.
- Clean Regularly: Regularly dust and clean your floors to keep them free from dirt and debris. Dirt can get trapped in wax and contribute to a grimy buildup, making floors appear dull.
- Use Diluted Solutions: If you need to use a stronger cleaner, dilute it properly to avoid over-applying. This keeps your floors cleaner without leaving residues.
- Avoid Multi-Layer Waxing: When it’s time to refresh the polish, remove any existing wax buildup first (using a product like Quick Shine Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover) before applying a new layer. Layering wax can quickly lead to dull, sticky floors.
- Use Mats and Rugs: Place mats at entrances and in high-traffic areas to capture dirt before it gets onto your floors. This reduces the need for frequent cleaning and waxing.
- Check for “Polish-Compatible” Cleaners: Some cleaners are specifically designed to work with waxed floors. Using compatible cleaners helps maintain the polish layer without adding extra buildup.
By following these steps, you can keep your hardwood floors looking polished and beautiful without the hassle of removing wax buildup.
