The Best Way to Protect and Maintain Laminate Floors

Thousands of homeowners trust Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish to enhance and protect their laminate flooring with a deep, rich, and long-lasting glow. If you want to keep your laminate floors looking beautiful for years, follow these essential tips on finishing, maintaining, and protecting them properly.
Understanding Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is made up of four layers, with the top layer being a protective vinyl coating. This layer safeguards the underlying wood grain image and structure, making laminate durable and stylish.
To avoid damage, never sand, wax, or apply lacquer to your laminate floors. Additionally, never flood-coat the surface with water, as moisture can seep beneath the panels, causing warping or separation. Instead, use Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish to enhance the shine and add a protective layer to your laminate flooring.
How to Apply Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish
For the best results, always start with a clean and dry surface before applying Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish. Follow these simple steps:
Clean the Floor Thoroughly
- Use a microfiber pad dampened with tap water or, for a deeper clean, use Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner.
- Avoid oversaturating the floor, as excess moisture can damage the laminate.
Avoid Harmful Cleaners
- Do not use oil soap, pine oil, orange oil, ammonia, vinegar, or all-purpose cleaners. These can leave a sticky residue, create a hazy finish, or interfere with the shine of the Floor Finish.
Apply Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish
- Once the floor is dry, apply a thin, even coat of Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish using a microfiber mop.
- Allow it to dry completely before walking on the surface.
Maintaining the Shine on Laminate Floors
Over time, foot traffic and daily wear can dull the appearance of your floors. To refresh the shine, simply apply a new coat of Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish as needed:
- High-traffic areas: Reapply every 2-3 months.
- Low-traffic areas: Reapply every 4-6 months.
- Spot touch-ups: You can apply the finish only to high-traffic zones instead of recoating the entire floor.

Thanks for the tips on taking care of laminate floors. My wife and I are having laminate put in this summer, and we want to make sure it stays in good shape. I like that you mentioned using rugs in the main areas of your home so that it reduces foot traffic on the wood. We will be sure to do that!
Glad we could offer advice Madeleine.
What are steps/products to use on high gloss hardwood floors that have a polyurethane finish? Which of your products should I use and in what order?
Hi Gregory,
We recommend routine cleaning with Quick Shine Multi-Surface or Hardwood Floor Cleaner. These pH neutral cleaners will not leave behind sticky, dulling residue and are safe for any hardwood floor. If your floors are lacking their original luster, we recommend following your cleaning with Quick Shine Multi-Surface Finish or Hardwood Luster to add a protective shine to your floors. This is what will give your floors the WOW Factor!
Can I use Murphy Oil Soap prior to using Quick Shine on my laminate floor?
Hi James,
We do not recommend using Murphy Oil Soap as it leaves behind surfactant which could effect the way our product performs. For best results, we recommend cleaning with Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner as it is compatible.
